PHILOSOPHY OF TEACHING

My teaching philosophy as an art educator is rooted in a holistic approach that seeks to inspire, empower, and nurture the creative potential within each student.
I view learning as an active, dynamic process where students construct their understanding through hands-on experiences, critical thinking, and self-expression. I believe that art education should provide a platform for students to explore, experiment, and make meaningful connections between their own experiences and the broader world of art.
As an art educator, my role is that of a facilitator and guide. I aim to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages curiosity and risk-taking. I strive to provide clear objectives while allowing flexibility for students to take ownership of their learning journeys. My teaching approach is based on the idea that students learn best when they are actively engaged, inspired, and feel a sense of ownership over their artistic discoveries.
My primary goal is to help students develop their artistic voices, foster a love for the arts, and build confidence in their creative abilities. In addition to technical skills, I aim to instill critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-reflection as essential tools for lifelong learning.
I believe in utilizing a variety of teaching methods and strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs. Hands-on projects, collaborative activities, and meaningful discussions are integrated into the curriculum. Encouragement, constructive feedback, and a growth mindset approach are central to my teaching methods, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
I value open and respectful teacher-student interactions. Establishing trust and rapport with my students is crucial, as it encourages them to take creative risks and seek guidance when needed. I actively listen to their ideas, concerns, and perspectives, promoting a sense of agency and autonomy in their artistic journeys.
In the art class, assessment goes beyond traditional tests and exams. I employ a range of assessment methods, including portfolio reviews, self-assessments, peer evaluations, and critiques. These forms of assessment provide students with opportunities to reflect on their growth, receive constructive feedback, and showcase their artistic development over time.
During the joint BA program in Fine Art ceramics and Art education, I am committed to ongoing professional development. I actively seek opportunities to enhance my teaching practices, stay informed about current educational trends, and further my own artistic growth. I believe that my continuous growth as an artist and educator positively impacts my students, as I am able to bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm to the classroom.
In summary, my teaching philosophy is rooted in creating a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that empowers students to explore, create, and grow as artists and critical thinkers. By fostering a positive atmosphere and embracing various teaching methods, I aim to inspire a lifelong love for the arts and equip students with the skills and confidence to succeed in their artistic endeavors.
