MARINO COLLEGE SECOND LEVEL
BA3 SCHOOL PLACEMENT
During my 3rd year school placement as part of my education course I had the opportunity to work amongst some brilliant educators in Marino College.
Here, I learned some of my core values that I include in my teaching philosophy. I learned how to create a safe and inclusive space for students to explore their artistic abilities and experiment with multiple mediums to enhance learning.

Below you will find some of my units of learning I completed during my placement along with examples of student work.
2ND YEAR STREET ART STENCILS
During this unit of learning I aimed to expand the students understanding of street art and create an accessible end product.

I gave the students the theme of 'Society'. Students discussed what society means to them and how that can differ between each student, focusing on societal issues as a class we discussed issues that teenagers might be facing during this time.
This created an open and safe learning environment for the students to discuss their opinions on the theme while broadening their artistic skills and creativity.

5TH YEAR VISUAL STUDIES: IRON AGE
In this unit students completed content area 2 , unit 7, 22 - Pre-Christian Ireland (c. 4000 BC -AD 500)
We focused on The Iron Age: Celtic Art in Ireland (c. 500 BC-AD 400). In particular we learned about metalwork and stonework from the Iron Age as students have already covered the history of the Celts including the Loughnashade Trumpet and The Broighter Hoard. The students had also previosuly covered The Stone Age and the Bronze Age.

I solidified their learning by taking a trip to the National Museum of Ireland at the end of the unit.
2ND YEAR CERAMIC TEA LIGHTS
Students learnt about ceramic art through designing and creating a ceramic tea light. Students had combined the artistic characteristics of the artist Antoni Gaudà with 1 primary source relating to the theme of ‘Natural’ or ‘Unnatural’ in which they had applied to their design.
Students covered shape, line and texture throughout this project.
3RD YEAR WET FELTING
Students had learned about textile art through designing and creating using the process of wet felting.

Students combined the characteristics of the expressionist movement with 1 primary source relating to the theme of identity in which they will apply to their design.
I wanted the students to use expressive colour through this project and to really focus on their emotions at that particular time, this project took a focus on expressive colours and wellbeing amongst the students.
Students will be using colour, composition and texture throughout this project.
